HI can anyone tell me do you have to chit parnips like spuds or just plant from seeds

You can chit parsnips - but not like potatoes!Put the seeds on damp kitchen roll with another damp sheet on top and leave for a few days (can't remember how long mine took). They should sprout little white tails, then they are ready toplant, and a lot of people reckon they grow better if they are "pre-chitted"like this.

In my experience they do indeed, got some chitting now. ;D

think i may try this way then as i never seem to have much luck with parsnips. how soon after they have 'chitted' do u plant and how late can u leave it to start them off as my plots are a bit wet at the moment.

plant them in sand if you have a problem with them the y grow faster that way

What is the best way to get the longest ones? Some people up my allotments make a hole and then fill with a soil mixture and sow 3 seeds on top... I just wanna know what the mixture is..   :'(
