Hi LBB,

Compost or manure, as much as you can manage, and dump some more on every year thereafter for 10 years.

Last year I had 36 Kg of soft fruit and still have some frozen left as well as jam!

littlebabybird

thank you  :)
do you think anything will fruit this year?

manicscousers

the blueberries like ericaceous compost, we've got ours in bottomless buckets , buried in the ground( they like damp feet), we mulch with wood chips every year and they seem to be doing fine, depends on how big your fruit plants are if you get any fruit and if they are bare rooted or pot grown  :)

we got raspberries from our autumn fruiting canes in the first year so, hopefully, you will too!

The cranberries need the same damp acid conditions.  There's a very good Gardeners' World video here http://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/projects/blueberries-cranberries-growing/

Something just stirred my memory, and I looked it up to confirm.  The lingonberry too should be planted with the blueberries and cranberry in acid soil.

LLb word of warning my cranberries were stolen last year by blackbirds and thrushes >:(. i really must build my fruit cage this year ::).

littlebabybird

thankyou thifasmom, i was thinking of making a cage from Enviromesh for my acid bed

the blurb says the blueberrys, cranberry and lignonberry are all self fertile, does  this just mean that they dont eed aother lant to pollinate them or that thy dont need insects to dot?

does everything fruit need netting? raspberrys, gooseberrys?
