Bean sprouts, ever made anyone ill?

I hope this isn't too off-topic - but would like to know if anyone has ever got sick from eating bean sprouts? Something I ate yesterday made me very, very sick indeed - either food poisoning or an allergy (clams have the same effect on me, which was possibly an allergy *caused* by food poisoning.)

The sprouts in question were adzuki and lentil - they looked and smelled fine.

I'm looking at everything I ate yesterday with suspicion - supper was a stir-fry, which doesn't help, as it had quite a few ingredients. But bean-sprouts are the top suspect. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or heard of it?

never heard of it but my daughter , son in law and both grandsons have been volently sick over the past few days, is there another bug going around ?
hope you're feeling better soon  :)

Aw thanks, manic! :) Yes, feeling much better now. I suppose it could be a bug but it felt more like allergy or food poisoning (which are indistinguishable to me.)
I had a vomiting bug already, couple of weeks ago! Oooohh I'll be glad when it's the summer, I don't do January and February very well at all. :(

Son in law was very sick on Sunday & said he felt toxic. My granddaughter said he does tend to milk it. She's 13 so knows everrrrrrrrything there is to know.

Oh, yes, many sprouts can cause food-borne illnesses  http://www.anapsid.org/sprouts3.html
And here's something I think is interesting re your food poisoning & vomitting bug thing http://www.bbc.co.uk/health/conditions/wintervomiting1.shtml
I had the same thing as you a few months ago and think I got it from hubby.  Hope you feel better--got to be fit for the lottie. :)

I had a couple of days last week when I was feeling Nauseous. It got worse at night.I put it down to the chemist giving me a different brand of Amlodipine but after a couple of days I was ok. I think there are a load of bugs flying around
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Thanks for those links, interesting. I've googled allergy to beansprouts and not found much, concluding that it does exist but isn't very common.

I don't think I had a bug last night, as the vomiting passed a after a few hours and I don't feel ill today - a bit feeble, but not feverish or nauseous.

If it is beansprouts I'm allergic to - at least they're easy to avoid! Like clams, which are pretty easy to avoid, and no great loss...

That's classic Vomiting Virus ... we all had it here in November.  We all were violently sick 3 or 4 times, and were fine (but weak) the next day.

Hmm, maybe it *was* a bug, then? I was sick about 12 times, spookily similar to last time I was sick from food poisoning. Certainly there does seem to be an awful lot of vomiting virus about. I'll just approach bean sprouts very cautiously, to be on the safe side, but maybe they're OK after all. On the other hand, now the connection is made in my head, I may never want to eat another one! :D
