Hi jokerman, I usually plant mine direct at about the end of march.

Only plant ours in the autumn. Less trouble putting them straight into the ground and of course you get to eat them early with ya bacon and new potato's

Our main planting is done in the autumn for the same reason as shirlton plus less greenfly probs, however I will  be sowing the   more tender red sort in pots in gh this week and plant out in early April.

If I didn't grow BB's my wifes winter stews wouldn't taste half as good.

I planted a couple of rows in October which are now about 6 inches high. I planted another couple or rows just before Christmas and I noticed today, now that all the snow has gone, that they are just breaking the surface.

I'll be putting another few rows in in a week or two... Yes, we do like a good Broad Bean or two :)

I planted some autumn ones early november and on my last visit only 3 plants were just up...but I haven't been and looked for over a week...hard to see thru' snow and I have been unwell.

I plan to plant some spring ones as well/just in case the other's don't come up and planned to plant into loo rolls...would these need to go under cover?

I always grow in modules, then plant out - more reliable with all those mice around. My autumn ones went into the ground mid-November and were quite sturdy little plants until they got sat on by several inches of snow! I think they'll recover.

The spring ones get sown February 1st (ono) and planted out in the first few days of March. One tray is already in the greenhouse and doing nicely; the other was a bit slower and came out of the propagator this lunchtime. So, if the weather plays ball, we should be up to timetable.

Last year I did put plastic cloches over them as it was rather cold - but the wind kept blowing them off! I've never bothered before and don't think I will this year.

And then I'll sow another batch in modules some time mid to late March.
