Just got an e mail to tell me that Norton have taken my subscription automatically from my debit card, went into my account and it was taken out this afternoon  :o
I know I should've cancelled it when I went with AVG but I thought I'd get a bit of warning..just been told off by my bank as,if I give anyone my details, they can go into my debit card account at any time and take money from me..
my bank can't stop the payment as it is guaranteed with a debit card..can't remember my flippin' password to get into norton, I've requested one three times and none have come through...mad as hell...who on earth have I given my details to..anyway, I'm cancelling my card tomorrow and wil be a bit more careful in future !!!

I had the same problem with vodaphone. They just went and set up a new agreement even though I  had canceled the direct debit. I got my money back as I had not signed up to the new agreement. My bank now has to contact me if anybody sets up a direct debit  without my written signature. It is a nuisance not being able to agree on line but at least I am in control.

Don't know how it happened manics, usually they send a reminder but from memory it is quite far in advance of the date.

After a change of laptop, I managed to renew twice and they were very good at sorting it out.  If you can get back into your account, sign in to live chat and a techie will sort it out for you in real time.  I've also used the live chat for technical support and found it good - they don't sign off until you're happy!

Hope you get it sorted.

thanks, both..
the direct debit wasn't showing when I checked the bank this morning, I got the e mail and went back to have a look and it's showing on the account.
Ceres, I've sent them an e mail, haven't received any new pass word , even though the receipt for the e mail came through straight away..haven't got time to sort it out in live chat, my son in law had an accident yesterday in work and we're helping out  :)

changing front springs on a car, under compression, the spring shot out and hit him in the face..his nose is twice the size, cuts all over and split his lip..it's given him bad headaches and his eyes are puffed up and bruised, we've got the babes while Sam is at work  :)

well, just received an e mail, apologising for the lack of correspondence..they're going to refund the 40.16 within 3 days so, phew, I'm going to keep records !!!  ;D

Ouch!  That's bad, hope it all settles down quickly, poor chap.

Glad you got your refund too, sounds like you don't need anything unnecessary on your plate right now!

I understand the problem too well. Thats the trouble with standing orders, direct debits and the like, once you set them up with a company thats it, they think they own you and assume you will stay their customer no matter what. You have to decide in advance that you DONT want to be their customer any more and jump through all the hoops they set out for you in order to cancel payments. i have had this with car insurance and car breakdown cover in the past when i have wanted to change. The temptation is to take the easy option and stay put, but that i think is exactly what they want you to so. Why should you keep paying someone your hard earned cash when you arent happy with them? ???

Another of my bugbears  >:( is the lack of respect some firms have for those customers who are happy to stay with them. Firms are quick to offer discounts to new customers, but force existing, loyal ones to pay full whack. I know this is a bit off topic but you know, once you get started on something......... ::)

I agree, I changed my car and house insurance to a new firm last year after about 10 years of staying put and paying increasing premiums with no claims.....I rang the existing company to ask if they could get anywhere near the new quote (with better cover and recovery I might add) and they said they wouldn't even try, and suggested I accepted the other quote! So I moved and saved myself over £100 a year with better cover.

I think firms don't seem to try and keep customers, they expect you to shop around and chop and change. I will be looking to do so again this year after that experience!
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

we had the same problem - AND they took the money out a month before the subsription was due to end. Sneaky - cus we'd already decided to cancel. BUT they give you a month (i think) grace so you can get your own money back. Nice of them. Which we did
