Black raddishes

Planted a row of 'mixed salad radish' a good while back, and all the usual red ones have been scoffed, however, I am left with white ones and black ones, and they are still growing!  Are they going to be tough as old boots, or can I leave them in the ground for a bit longer?  Oh, and do they taste like regular radishes????

Years ago, when we had our hugely fertile but nightmare-to-dig plot in Leeds, we grew black spanish round radish (you can get long ones too). They were superb. They sat for ages in the soil - good as gold - no woodiness and no hollow bits either. However the skin seems to get quite thick - easy solution to that (peel it). Ours were quite hot - but that was around 1995 BC (before children) - so a bit of hotness wasn't a problem to anyone...

Excellent news!  I shall leave them to it then until I want them.  I am the only one in this family who likes radishes, so as you can imagine, a row can last quite a time.  I have to successionally sow, just a couple at a time!!!

ooh - might have to give them a go. Had no luck with normal radishes (tiny and nice or big and woody).

Only grow the white ones  :-\ and i usually let them grow till i need them,  tried to break the record but as always........... failed  :-\ , it only grew 10" long and 5" round but at least it tasted nice  ;D.
