But it was the start of 20 hours of no power, starded at 6 pm last night, i think the Italian power station workers came out in sympathy with the British power workers.
We took in the family from next door, one parent family with three kids.
Solid fuel heating has some good points.
I could of done with a bit extra light in the kitchen, altho i did not find the cheese and curry chutny sandwiches to bad.

 How true is that Tonybloke.  We have lived here now for 1yr 9mths & we have yet to have a neighbour be sociable we have spoken to say hello & Good morning But that is as much as , as happened here we do get a wave now & again though.
Very lonely here in this cul-de-sac, we have put our home up for sale to move half way back very dissapointed living here, waiting for Lorna, & Lish, to visit me again
I think you need to be in these places about 20yrs before you are excepted.

We took in Betty our 91 year old neighbour overnight the other week when her electricity went off... for some reason our houses are on different circuits from the substation... Well done Davy...  :)

Nice and cosy davy,  So nice to hear in this day and age people being neighbourly to others.

I was born and brought up in London and there was  a real community, so when I moved out here all those years ago, to a village, I couldn't believe people didn't speak to you.  I was so lonely for years, no wonder I turned to talking to all the worms and creepy crawlies on my allotment.

I have lived here for donkey years and don't feel there would be one neighbour I could turn to in a time of need.  Although they all seem to come to me

You get this in some villages.

Some of the people in my village have the ability to look right through you.

One couple I have walked past every day for two years do this.I used to say good morning but have stopped long ago.

They are what is known as pig ignorant.

On the bright side they are not all like that.I have got to know some very nice people.

Rosebud if you are that unhappy you are doing the right thing.Get out as soon as possible.

It's a method of reducing the number of properties affected by a fault.   It also highlights which sub-sub-sub-section of the network is most likely affected so they know where to target the resources instead of wasting time running around like the proverbial fly.   It also makes it far far easier to fix the fault.

Having lived in the Fens since 1972 and because we had a business we made friends very quickly. About 20 years ago we had a fire in our bedroom, fire engine in attendance, our bed thrown out of front door and although it was midnight we had many calls from neighbours asking if we needed any bedding. Great crowd. The place that really surprised me was Mayfield in East Sussex. My husband had visited the village several times before we moved in and on the first day I went shopping in the village so many people said good morning that I thought maybe husband had met them on his visits. Such a friendly place to live.

I find that the Dunkirk spirit returns to people in times of hardship like the war years, have you noticed how polite and courteous other road users are as well,     It restores are thoughts in human nature eh!.

It does look cosy, but what a nuisance!  Good for you going to the rescue next door.

We live in a cul-de-sac and we are one of only a few young families, and the neighbours all chat and we all get on really really well.  Very lucky, and it did take a while, but we have lived here now for 9 years and it is the happiest I have ever been.
