hi, am away next week so thought I would sow my seeds when I get back (no-one to look after them whilst away)but am a bit concerned as it sems like the majority of you have sown yours weeks ago . will it be too late the week after next, they will be in a heated propogater at first then in a cold greenhouse

Haven't sown mine yet- sowed on 8th Feb last year, in the house but with no extra heat, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

I would have thought you could sow them before you went!

They can take five to ten days to germinate so if you do your watering correctly at sowing time this should be sufficient until they germinate.

Incidently what type of heating will they have?

Yes if you wanted to grow the hugest ginormous whopper of a record-breaking onion, but otherwise, no!

hi tee gee, they will be in a thermostatically controlled propogater but the lid isnt true fitting as the original got broken and am now using two smaller ones

Quotebut the lid isnt true fitting

That should not matter in fact it will reduce evaporation thus keeping the compost moist for longer.

The only thing that cooler temperatures do is slow down the germination rate.
