Hi folks
what questions do you think i should ask my allotment treasurer when i view the site on sunday? I want to do the best thing possible! and not get talked into a dodgy bit of land or not ask the right questions.

Does it get lots of sun all day?  Does it flood?  These are my top ones as the end of my plot(like a fifth of it) is in rather more shade then I'm happy with and is also distinctly on the soggy side-I now know why we found all those strange ditch efforts when clearing it.
Make sure you can see exactly how big your plot is too as on our site plots vary considerably but are supposedly one size! some are several feet wider and longer.

If you have a choice (Bearing in mind I don't have a plot yet) I would have thought pick a plot in the middle away from the perimiter fences so the vandals don't torch your shed etc, assuming the fence is high enough to keep em out, that is my intention. 8)

Better to be safe than sorry. :D

Does it have acess to water?
When was the last time it was cultivated?
(if it looks a disaster) Can I get cheap or free rent the first year whilst I clear it?
Are there any plans to change the usage of the allotments? (you don't want to put in a load of hard work, only to find out in a years time 30 houses are going on it!)
What happens to all the waste coming off it, communial composting or on your own?
Are there any restrictions on what you can grow on it? (ie: fruit trees)
Can you have a copy, now, of rules and regs for your site.
Who do I contact if there is a problem?
You need also to look at acess, When I order my manure, a tractor has to be able to get to my plot!
We are pretty lucky as ours are fairly laid back rules! But I have to say having the water tap next to my site is a BIG bonus! ;D
We don't inherit the earth, we only borrow it from our children.
