As a poor defenceless citizen, who uses the phone on odd occasions, I now find I am being charged £44.84 (was £30) an increase of over 49%. Charges per quarter are 20-£25.
I now receive a memo that line charges are to be increased again - by £1/month from April. Also, they are mucking about with 'friends & family'.
I reckon this is the last straw, so hence this question:-

What is a good deal for phone/internet?

I like my ISP but they don't do bundles.

Not sure what tariff you are on, but it is worth looking into subscribing to 18185.  For all calls in the UK anytime of day, (apart from from 084/7 nos.) they only charge 5p.

http://www.18185.co.uk/index2.php

We have to make six chargeable calls per quarter with BT to maintain our free calls at weekend and the call id.  Our quarterly bill, including these calls is about £42. which includes that 4.50 admin charge cos we don't do their direct debit.

The only draw back with 18185 is that you have to dial the whole number, i.e. std code even for the local number, and punch in 18185 beforehand.  It is nice though being able to make a national call without having to think "is it after 6pm".

We are on an Orange package for our ISP, but have 18866 for all other calls, but saying that I proabably need to recheck my broadband as I am sure I can get it cheaper!

I use 18866 for most calls. Tiscali for Broadband, line rental and free weekend calls. My call bill is usually around £4 to £6 for two months with 18866 (5p per call). Tiscali, I pay around £24 a month for BB and Line rental. I worked for BT for 12 years but they are too expensive.

B.T. ripoff? - Most definitely.

My Mother makes very few calls and for he last few years has been on BT Light User. She pays £13.00-£15.00 per quarter for the line AND calls.

They have now stopped that and only offer a reduced package to those on means tested benefits (BT Basic), and thats more expensive than BT Light User, ie 10p per minute for calls.

She has now been forced onto Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan which is  £35.50 a quarter + daytime calls.

That's over double the cost.

Just when pensioners are being hit with high heating and food prices, BT add their bit as well, just to help.
