I think we had a Fieldfare in the garden today. It stayed most of the day & was eating apples on the lawn. My bird books say they hang around in large groups, but it was a loner. Any ideas.

I've only ever seen them in 20+ but they may have been in neighbouring gardens as well...  :-\

Last year - a year today to be precise  ::) ::) (keep a diary)  I had a ONE Fieldfare eating my halfed apples.  It came back the next day so it must have remembered!!!  so I am sure you must have seen the One.  Handsome birds, aren't they?

Lovely bird. It was nice to see the blackbirds afraid for a change. Always chasing away the beautiful thrush.

The fieldfare is back!!! OH just gone to make me a cuppa & it was there. I've just put some more apples & pears out. Les, what a beautiful picture. Did you take it?
Janet.

And just to prove one does get singletons eating apples.

Mind if this agressive one spent more time eating and less time chasing blackbirds it would be even fatter!
Gardening is the great leveller.

A single fieldfare turned up in my garden this morning.  No fruit out either and the blackbirds were wondering what he found!!!

It's been here all week now. Need more apples tomorrow. Chased the thrush away yesterday.

There's been a flock of redwings round the flats here - they turn up every winter - but I've never seen a fieldfare in the city. the other day I was down on the allotments, and I saw rabbit footprints in the snow. We get the odd one appearing in very cold weather; presumably they come down the railway line. They never last too long, but one had my parsnips once.
