I've taken on this job (unpaid), no one else in the club wanted to, and the club might have been abandoned / wound up !! :o

the society has become 'stale' (I only joined 2 years ago) and I think there has only been 2  new members since then)
I think a bit of advertising in local media, on the net, cross - societies, etc etc, we might liven the society up a bit!!
(we got national chrysanthemum champs as members!) but no  one under about 40 yrs young.
It'll be a challenge, but I like them!! ;) ;D ;D

Good luck with it, Tony.  Do let us know how you get on.

I was Secretary of our Village Horticultural Society for about 10 years.  We tried to encourage the young folk to enter the Flower Show and enter the Best GArden, Best Hanging Basket or containers but it is still the usual group of growers who show their veg and flowers.  We lost one member 2 weeks ago.  He was the Village Onion man and received a few cups, so that is one member down now.  The only time we get some interest is when we hold our Annual Coffee Morning with sale of Plants at the end of May.  The village folk come out in great numbers to buy the cheap bedding plants and any other plants going cheap.  I gave up being Secretary last year, time for new blood I thought.   No new member took my place.   Good luck though maybe you can generate more enthusiasm in your local group.
