Fruit tree advice please

Thanks Dadnlad........I have the number in my phone book now :D ;)

Tonyb........gladly there are are group of about 5 crabs just over the houses, but I think I would like to.....if finances allow.......get a cooker and eater in the same pollination group. Then its just cherries or a plum to worry about.  ::)

Thanks all for your replies, from what I gather both sources can produce good results. Simpsons is near to me so I might call in there, they have also been recommended locally. Speak to you later with my next problem.........

Simpsons Nursery is about 300 yds from where my Junior School was. (the flint buildings at the junction with Market rd)

Honeybees are very good at finding the most efficient food source. That's a combination of distance, the number ofd flowers, and the quality of the source. They'll go a couple of miles for a field of rape, and ignore a pear tree (about 10% sugar in the nectar) immediately next to the hive. Apples flower early before honeybee nests build up, and bumblebees, which aren't selective, are at least as important. If the crab apples are within a couple of hundred yards, there's nothing to worry about as long as they're in flower at the same time as your trees. Flowering times do vary, so this is something to be aware of.

I just got the Parkers wholesale catalogue, and was looking at family trees and minarettes (spellin?) Am quite taen with them. They also do family pears and plums ;D ;D I'll post a link tomorrow, dont know where I put the book just now  ;)
