Hi Guys,

I watched a Channel 4 Documentary on the witch children in Nigeria, where children are abused, buried alive, and abandoned.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=H64VrjkqhMI&feature=channel
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=435ym9rEquk

There is a charity trying to help them and one of the things they have tried to do is to buy land for the children to grow food.

Just had a chat with Gary Foxcroft from the charity and they are going out there in 10 days.

So i offered to collect some seeds to take with them.

Needs to be able to grow in Nigerias climate and short growing periods and be something the children want to eat they have very basic tastes. So things like Casava, Yam, Squash/Pumpkin, Spinach, carrot etc

I have not cleared my in box out in a while and will try to do this tonight but if you have anything can you post it on here please.

Be warned the videos are heartbreaking!!

manicscousers

I wonder if there is any restrictions on taking seed over there?

cambourne7

ok Send the seeds to

Stepping Stones Nigeria,
Room 36, D Floor,
St Leonard's House,
St Leonard's Gate,
Lancaster,
LA1 1NN.

Care of Gary, please add a covering note to tell them what the growing instructions/conditions are and that i have asked you send them :)

Cant find any information about inport restructions regarding seeds but they only want seeds that will grow and produce food. They have a short growing season between a hot and a rainy season so please keep this in mind.

I suggest you post here what you have sent so we avoid 2 many duplicates.

He leaves in 10 days :)

The charity has been inundated by calls and offers for help unfortunatly i am not near them so i cant help but if anyone out there is near them and has some free time i am sure they would love the help :)

Thanks again

Cam aka Louise  ;D

Cam - have a few things which should grow in the climate - some from USA but I ordered them before I realised about zones!

I'll send them on.

I watched this programme as well - in total disbelief that christianity could be corrupted into something so evil. I couldn't understand how anyone could persecute children in this way.

Robert_Brenchley

It's not Christianity, it's traditional belief. We did the same thing, importing pagan stuff when the church first arrived; that's why we named Easter after a pagan goddess! Anywhere in sub-saharan Africa, if someone of any age is labelled a 'witch', they need to run away fast, as people are seriously scared of witchcraft.

Suzanne

This is probably not the area of the forum to do this so I will open a new thread in the Watershed entitled Witches and Christianity
