Finally uploaded some into my photobucket account (man, that site is a pain to deal with)

I thought it easier to just put a link to the album rather than put 20 odd thumbnails up. Also, this way if you click on the actual picture, then click on it again, you get to see it in it's full size (just clicking once brings it up at 65%) I hope it works, I've not done it before, LOL.  Anyway, Scotland is beautiful and we didn't let some poor weather stop us from having a marvellous time.  I'm very pleased with how they've come out.

Edit:  I have more pictures, including Edinburgh Castle, I just haven't got around to editing and uploading them yet!

Tulipa

Sam your photos are lovely, I love the lighting in them, much more atmosphere than on a hot sunny day.  Some of them almost look like paintings.  Did you stay in one of the log cabins?  Looks lovely, I am glad you had a good time. :)

just awesome 8),
my other half keeps nagging me to go to Scotland but i figure i endure enough bad weather down here to experience more up there :-\, but i will cave in oneday ;).

where exactly in Scotland did you go and when is the best time to visit the great outdoors of Scotland to not experience midges and the worst of the bad weather.

we braved wales 2 yrs ago camping and that was fun but did have to leave a day early when the heavens opened with no end of rain insight would have loved to stay the extra day but when you have a 1yr and 7 yr old in a 4 man tent with constant rain stopping you from cooking, etc, we thought we would call it a day :-\.

plan to go to the lake district next, and then maybe i will be well seasoned for good old Scotland :D.

lorna

What beautiful scenery, Charlie often had to travel to Scotland when we had our haulage business and he always said how lovely the scenery is. Great photos Sam. Wonder if I can persuade Lorna to make Scotland our next years destination.

Gardengirl

All lovely photos Sam but particularly like the waterfall, rapide water and the toadstools. What a beautiful place, glad you had a good time. Agree with Tulipa, the moody lighting in some of them makes them much more interesting :)
Happy gardening all...........Pat

Great pics Sam.  I see you caught my favourite  Falls of Dochart.  Did you manage to get to Glen Coe?

The best place to visit the WEst Coast of Scotland is May to June before mrs Midge comes out, also the weather seems to be favourable around that time.  Mind you, the NW Coast of Scotland including the Islands had a very good summer this year.  Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis had the highest temperature in the UK for a few days this summer.  So you see, the weather can be good.  Last year we had a great week on the Isle of Skye, clear blue skies and warm.  This was the beginning of June.  Scotland is worth a visit, at least once in a lifetime, but then I am biased.

thanks for the tips on when to visit :)

Thank you for the nice comments :)

Thifasmom, in the seven days we were there (our accommodation was based in Callander but we travelled quite a distance to various places) we had very mixed weather including some very warm, sunny days (one at the beginning and the last two days, I think) Depending on the sort of holiday you choose, the weather is either very important or not.  We had planned to do a lot of hill walking, bird watching and general pickering about but of course the rain put a bit of a stop to that (sorry, I'm not a put on your mac n wellies and get on with it sort of woman, LOL!) but of course the rain didn't spoil our day in Edinburgh.

The bad weather made some places we visited quite eerie and almost threatening in appearance.  The dark skies, low, thick clouds and rain changed the appearance so quickly!

Tulipa, yes we stayed in one of those lodges.  Ours was situated on the edge of Loch Lubnaig which was beautiful.

Carol, I've got some more lovely pics of the Dochart Falls which I'll put in with the next lot! :)

We definitely want to go back and I'm thinking of booking up again for next year ;D  Carol, perhaps we could meet for coffee and cake en route?  ;D

i know what you mean about being a fair weather outdoor girl, I'm somewhat like that as well especially if i have the kids in tow, but with my husband alone i could tolerate it if its not to ominous ;). i would definitely be going to enjoy the outdoor experience and love birdwatching too, is late spring a nice time too visit?

Just caught up with this post.  Beautiful photos Sam.  We used to live in Oban on the west coast of Scotland and had a wonderful time there.

I think everyone who likes stunning scenery should make the effort to go there as it is unforgettable.  It can rain though.  When we moved there on 6th August 1982 it rained every day until the end of March.

I went back on a trip with Shearings in May 2003 and had beautiful weather.  I stayed in the Great Western Hotel in Oban and with half board the whole trip was very reasonably priced.  Lovely views of the sea from the bedrooms and wonderful to see the ferries and fishing boats coming in and out.

Lovely pictures  :)

The scenery is so beautiful along the West Coast.  I love Argyll - Benmore Botanic Gardens are worth a visit ! The drive from Fort William to Skye is so beautiful.
and........
If you are ever visiting Lewis / Harris, you must to go to Luskentyre Beach - Its the most stunning place - beautiful white sands which go on for miles, gorgeous turquoise water - and the best part - its deserted !!
