Hi there!
I am about to embark on my first year with an allotment.

I have a question though. I have read in one of my books that it is a good idea to have a mini poly tunnel cloche type thing. I have had a look at a few, but some seem to have ends on them whereas others don't. Why is that?

What type do you think is best?

Many thanks and happy growing!

hiya, scooterboy, welcome to the site  ;D
there are loads of tunnel type things, some people make their own,
depends what you're trying to protect and when.
lots of people use them for early or late crops.
you can still grow some crops with a tunnel without ends, just have to anchor it down so's it wouldn't blow away  ;D

Lie the ends flat when you want closed ends, and put bricks on them.

If you go for open ends don't put anything the pigeons like in em.

Hi all
Many thanks indeed for your replies and your advice, much appreciated.

I have bought two 3 metre poly tunnels with no ends as they were significantly cheaper than the ones with ends, at £4.99 each. They are slightly longer than I need so I can just fold the ends down as Robert suggested, and I shall be sure to avoid tasty snacks for pigeons!

Thanks again.
