One actually needs to think beyond just plant spacing, which is only a part of the exercise. You also have to consider how much top growth there is, is a a root veg, does it need support, etc etc.  Also culturally there are differences in the way of growing stuff - in Italy they grow broad beans in tight groups of 5, the plants hold each other up, and I'm always being told mine are TOO FAR APART - WHEN WILL YOU EVER LEARN! OK, next year ... ...  :-\ :-\ :-\

Thanks Tim for the chart and thanks TGG for the helpful alignment.

I do block planting rather than rows, so I add together the plant and row spacings and block plant at those spacings. As I get more experienced I vary the spacings based on that and what happened last time. So, for example, I plant sweetcorn closer to encourage pollination and underplant with beans and squash. I just make sure that the soil is enriched accordingly. It works some of the time!

We all know how much these things vary from variety to variety, from plot to plot, from season to season. It could get boring otherwise! ;)

Nah - that won't take long - cut and paste into Word and then use tabs to format (these won't work on an internet forum as it will tab from box to box as in table.  Then cut and paste back into the reply box (the tab spaces will remain) and voila - an easier to read, formatted list.  No time at all!
