It is a confusing term. The difference is that greenhouses usually require electric heating whereas I planned to only try to keep this frost free using the sun and storing a little of its energy. That said, it dawned on me it would be lovely to have the option of plugging in a lamp so I've roped my husband, poor guy who wanted nothing to do with my madness, into installing an electrical outlet.

An update on walk-in solar coldframe and picture:
Began insulating with odds and ends from a builder (30R nice!)
and some used masonite(?) board to go over that-
one side of board has a water proof coating but not sure how well
it will do in humidity.  The outside siding has gone very slowly due
to pouring rain. What I did put up (during the deluge) came out
slanted-imagine that! I  :o know! so it looksmore than a bit wonky.

You aren't kidding!  The chocolate really did give me lots of energy. I should have
invested in 10 lbs of chocolates last month and this project might have been finished.
(if you eat 10 lbs of chocolates do you only gain 10 lbs?)

Hi Grannie Annie, your building is very impressive indeed. I can see money is no object for this project. Dont know where your site is but the SLO's/Contractor would not allow such a building where i am as we/ the thought police, only allow buidings up 6X8. You're quite lucky.
You call it a cold house ? Doesnt look like it will be that at all.Well done.

Money is no object???  This is mainly all recycled lumber, old siding and old windows and scraps of insulation and used ceiling masonite. Did have to buy some plywood, shingles and brick, but still not coming close to the cost of a new greenhouse. Lots of free exercise, too. 8)

Freezing and blustery outside ( -7 C) but sufficiently warm (5 C) in this unheated structure enough to keep the lettuce coming.  Also, one very tiny green pepper (at base of thermometer) but I've pruned the plant down to just a stem since the pepper leaves have wilted now.

Lettuces: Deer's Tongue, Winter Density, Fun Jen....., Baby Romaine.

Emmy, it still looks exactly like the picture shown on the first page labeled Nov 1 in red- except the ladder is gone.  I still haven't added another window pane to the top row where the double window is missing and there still is no electricity out to it.

Also, I still need more water containers inside but what I have seems to so far be adequate. My son gets recycled lidded tubs from work which I paint black.
