Hi All,

My pumkins are still really pale and show no sign of turning that vivd orange. The leaves etc are all dying back too.

As they came with a kids magazine I do not know the variety but i would assume they would have been the typical bright coloured halloween ones.

Its not really a problem for carving but assuming they are not a pale variety when ripe would there be any problem eating them if they are not ripening fully?

Thanks
Liam

I'd like to know too - I have one Hunter (butternut) that's should be yellow but is still pale green and the vine is beginning to show signs of giving up the ghost.

Hunter does not go yellow. They go a muddy beige.

They were definitely in full sun as i allowed plenty of space for them - i cannot remember exactly when it was now though due to losing the packet - was a good few months ago though as they are a fair size.

One of the stems on the top of a pumpkin has gone green whereas on the other plant they are still orangy.

My pumpkins were dark green until they started to to turn orange. This is how they looked about August time.

The second photo you can see them starting to change they went a yellow colour first. Mine went outdoors the first week of June but I protected them with a plastic cloche for a further couple of weeks until it got warmer...so they have had quite a long period to mature into a beautiful orange colour. I also fed them twice a week with liquid seaweed fertilize and watered them nearly everyday in the middle of the season. They are very tasteless though :'( I will grow more squash and one pumpkin plant for carving.I am guessing that when you said pale you mean yellow ish and mottled.
Hope you find an answer.

Its tricky might be the type of seeds you sowed which as you said you dont know what type they were. Put out a call for Jeannine the pumpkin Queen.
