Ace - the people of Lincoln invented and built most of the war machinery that is why their occupations were reserved.  I agree that it was once a bit of a parochial backwater (not our fault - that was a fault of a Tory landowner in the 19th Century!!!) Tis far more cosmopolitan now duck! ;D

PS - I worked in the Golden Eagle and that is where I still drink on matchdays (I used to serve the current landlord) and can vouch that is an excellent pub.  I am not sure about the current state of the Wig - I heard it had been taken over and had undergone radical change which is why I didn't include it.

I lived in Lincoln for a while back in the mid sixties, I thought if the world were to have piles thats where they would be.

The natives where very distrustful and also very nosey. I put this down to them living in their own small worlds and not being well travelled, even in the war when most of them were in reserved occupations

LMAO!!
at least we're not narrowminded bigots.....
have you noticed the world has changed a little since the 60's ace?

I must admit noticing a few changes, I think I must have missed a lot of the good bits though. But some of you seem to like it a lot.

Tell me, When did the lunatics start running the asylum?

I also have memories of Lincoln dating back to the late Fifties and early sixties but I must say that my memories are much rosier than Ace's. Mind you I was just a child at the time but I seem to remember people being friendly, warm and welcoming.

Now, you leave my mate out of it.

He had dinner at one of our clients. Naturally he had a tour of the garden. The husband of the property (who thinks his wife is wasting her money on the gardener) asked Alan what he thought needed doing in the garden.

Alan replied 'Your wife has one of the best gardeners on the island' then added 'he  himself would be pushed to be able to do better'.

betula

Praise indeed but em how many gardeners are on the island?? ::)

Rhubarb Thrasher

what does that mean? you were working in the garden at the time with a dress on?

he wasn't going to say - it's cr@p, after getting a free dinner, was he?

Could you run that by me again. a bit of an oxymoron if ever there was one.

So it is Lincolnshire day today. Just so you don't forget where you are.

Give us the meaning of the flag, What do all the colours mean? or was it just designed by a committee. ;)

Voted on by residents:
Green - cos we grow more of what you eat than any other County in the UK you ungrateful get
Blue - because we have loads of sky being so flat and loads of sea.
Yellow - because we have sandy beaches and yellow bellies
The red cross and fleur de lys because that is the flag of the City of Lincoln.

Ace - I have nobody on ignore but I am tempted by you because you can be such an obnoxious prat!
