How on earth do we distinguish ladybird eggs from cabbage whites ???? They are both yellow, the same shape can anyone help :-[.

I go round squishing eggs on my kale, but get annoyed with myself that I may be getting rid of predators as well >:(

I don't know what ladybird eggs look like.  I've always assumed eggs on brassicas = cabbage white, and squished.

I don't know if there is a book out there, but if there isn't, I would appreciate someone writing one showing clear illustrations of egg, larva and imago, so that I only squish the bad eggs. ;D

Yes eggactly Valmarg, I have googled but they dont appear together so the scale and light is different. I understand that ladybird eggs look very similar to small cabbage whites. Which is why I wanted to know the subtle differences.

Im sure Baccy man would know......where is he?

COOOOOEEEEEEEE BM. ARE YOU THERE? ;D

I believe that you would be doing yourself a favour in despatching anything you see. Ladybird eggs must be very few & far between? And, if hatched, they would already have lost the battle against the nasties.

Baccy Man

Cabbage white eggs have slight ridges & flat ends, they look like this.

Ladybird eggs are smooth & have a rounded ends, they look like this.

c'mon baccyman, with the photos you shpwed, couldn't you produce the book I was asking for.

It's got to be in the interests of gardeners to know what bugs to squish and what to treasure. ;D

Whilst I have years of gardening experience, when it comes to good and bad bugs I'm out on a limb.
