End of March I bought a Stella dwarf cherry tree and a dwarf pear tree, both of which are suitable for pots & patio growth.  They were delivered bare rooted.  They have been in pots now for 3 & 1/2 months.  One has 2 tiny leaves on and the other has not changed at all.  I thought there should be more growth on them by now.  (I am going on what my OH has told me due to working away at moment so have not seen them myself)

Is this right?

Since none of the big guns have answered yet...my two cents worth. I bought a bare root cherry semi-dwarf and it had leaves the first season. No leaping growth but definitely tufts of leaves so I'd be concerned about the one being dead that has shown nothing after a couple months of warmth. I guess in your area it has had regular watering.

it's ok to prune cherries now, try cutting a branch, should be able to see if the wood's dead..ours are full of leaes, no fruit but it is the first full year  :)

Each tree has one central trunk.  only,  no branches at all. ???

They should be showing signs of growth by now. Most bare roots will be later to show signs of new growth than established trees but the leaves should of appeared by the end of June.

did you soak them for awhile before potting them up, scratch at the bark to see if it is green or prune an inch or so off the top tp see what the stem is doing

No branches sounds like minarette style trees. Although I think  bare root fruit trees don't much like being transplanted in Spring, they may just be sulking a bit and  concentrating on getting their roots comfortable again. Worth carrying out the suggested checks for signs of life.

If they never produced any leaves go and complain to the person you bought them from. I guess you have not planted them too deep or let them dry ut before planting them?

I have never had anything but problems with Bakker, hope you can get them to honour their guarantee without too much hassle.

I got a bare rooted greengage that looked dead. The dispatch note said "dispatch within 3 days" It was delivered  to my surgery while I was on holiday 3 weeks after the date afore mentioned.

I opened it a week later and it was dead like the proverbial parrot.

In desperation I dunked it in the fish pond for 3 weeks and then planted it because I wanted to make sure I had my facts right before demanding my money back.

It is now a mass of growth and the problem is it is in my garden in an unsuitable place so I will have to transplant it in the Autumn.
