Morning all

I planted a mixed packet of gourds / squashes from Lidl and I picked a lovely pear shaped fruit with marrow looking stripes which was half yellow and the other half green. It tastest rank. Has anyone an idea of what this gourd is - is it ornamental and if so it is not mentioned on the packet. Other plants have produced edible round fruit with limey green skin, others are totally yellow which have not been tasted. I hope I do not need to scrap the plant.

Sounds like it could be butternut squash.  It will taste rank because it is too early too harvest.  Not ready for another month at the bare minimum.

I agree ~~~i think it was butternut squash too. It needs another couple of months!

I think you need to wait until the skin is a pale honey/sandy colour.  And I reckon Duke is right - at least another couple of months until is it mature enough to start eating.  Keeps well too.

great to of received similar wise words. It's a case of suck it and see - the gourd with the limey green skin was planted at the same time yet tasted lovely. Do guords / squashes mature at such different times?
