A lot of my onion leaves are falling over but have not gone yellow.Quite a lot of the leaves have gone "tubular". Should I dig them up or leave them a bit longer? As usual I'm asking this after digging some of them up- oh for an internet connection  at the allotment! ;D

I would dig them up now, the tubular leaves are probably a sign that they are starting to bolt. Use those ones first as they wont keep as well as the rest.

I was thinking the same, a few of mine have bolted, think its time I lifted them along with the garlic.

This is going to be fun!   ;)

Thanks. As I'm going to be away for most of the next two weeks, think I'll lift them before I go. They are certainly a lot better than last year anyway.

I too have the same problem, but what do you mean by tubular?  is that like hollow leaves?  Its the first time I have grown them and didn't know whether this was normal?   Please advice  ;D

Yes, hollow, and the middle one (the stem) sort of bulging in the middle!

Getting ready to sprout. I suspect

Some of my red ones were exactly like that.  I dug them up and managed to get quite a lot of edible material out of them.

I better get mine lifted too then!   ;)

Mine are a lot better than last year too.
