I would like to thank those who brought to my attention this year,  the Carmen variety of cucumber plant.

I paid £4.50 for 5 seeds from "Exhibition Seeds" as opposed to £7-8 everybody else was asking.  From one plant, so far this year we have had five 10-12" long cucumbers,  with another 6 or 7 growing along nicely.  3 of which will be ready again within the next week.  And its only July!  What month does it usually stop? (December would be good ;D ;D ;D)

We are counting to see how many fruit we get off one plant. I know the packet says up to 100 but I expect a more realistic number of around 40-50...... 8) 8) 8)

Yes well worth the money. I tried Telegraph in the greenhouse this year. Its a pain taking the male flowers off every day,the few cucs we did get tasted bitter so i've pulled them up,too much bother. All female for me next year.

But mildew free? I saw a few spots on the lower leaves when I was watering last night :o loads of cukes coming though!

I got mine as a the free packet from T&M that you can choose when you order more than a certain amount of seeds. Someone here suggested it.  Only tried two seeds - both germinated but the seedlings got stem rot at their bases. Now relying on Petita for this year.   After the praise they've had here, I wIll deffo give them another go next year.

I seem to remember getting my Carmen for free too when buying other seeds for next year  ;D ;D. I have three plants in my tiny GH. The Carmen is the strongest, but the fruit are rather long (I prefer the mini type). The Zeina, which is a  mini is good and has several fruit ready for picking at the moment. The third is Petita which got off to a bad start but is now catching up and will probably provide fruit when the others have finished. All of them are so far proving resistant to mildew.

My Ziena all died once reaching about 15" tall.  I was expecting them to produce as good as the Carmen is.
