What has gone wrong with my garlic? I planted 12 cloves last october, yhey grew fine survived the winter, when i dug a couple up they were the size of a 50p piece. Rather a let down after telling my wife we wont need to buy garlic this year.

a lot of mine werent huge either a couple were full sized but they were in a pot so not surprised by this

Mine are not big either - there are mentions of this in other threads too, so perhaps not the best year for garlic. :(

Mine did better than last year. What's the soil like? I mulch them with a couple of inches of grass cuttings, and I'm sure they benefit.

Soem of mine are massive, I'm feeling really smug.  I planted 90 hoping for a years worth, but now realise it should have been 150, to allow for 2 per week, some to show off to friends  8), and some for freezable recipes.

I was pleasantly surprised with mine considering the size of clove I planted.

As I think most of you know I save the five best(biggest) bulbs I have grown for the following years planting, but last year being such a poor year my cloves were decidedly small by my standards.

However as needs must I planted them and this is some of what I grew;

I am a complete novice at growing garlic but was fairly pleased with the results this year. Some rust on all 4 varieties (Sprint, Corail, Arno. Cristo) and some small cloves, but some pretty big ones too. Sprint has done particularly well. Looking forward to reading all the tips about storage.

Those sprint ones look nice. Mine look more like the first photo :( A bit small I thought.

Tim - I think so, although I must confess that I am not absolutely sure about the Arno and Cristo.  Anyway, experienced garlic growers on my allotment site told me it was high time to harvest them when I did....and they taste good.
