Cabbage question - am I being wasteful?

Just havested a whole load of hispi cabbages. Usually I compost the outer coarser  leaves and only use the pale softer leaves. Am I being wasteful? Do any of you use the outer leaves to cook with?

Yes I think they taste nicer, they certainly taste stronger.

Take out the 'rib' of the outside leaves as these tend to be tougher than the inside ones.

well I admit that I myself take off the toughest leaves, at least one "layer" usually.
But I guess that if you took out the central vein they could be sliced and added to a stir fry etc. Personally I find them a bit tough...

Depending on the cabbage, you could remove the rib then shred the outer leaves fairy thinly then stir fry them in hot oil & drizzle soy sauce over.

But tehn I like cabbage.   ::)

Or shallow fry as in chinese seaweed.

I always chuck the outer leaves on the compost heap but I must admit I do it when no one is around as it always feels so wasteful!!  ::)  ;D

That depends on how long its been dead.
I am a bit confused when you say you have harvested a load of hispi do you mean you have lifted them all.

I don,t waist any, if it does not stick in my throat it wont stick in my ....?

None of my green leaves of any veg get wasted unless diseased.  They go to my hens, rabbits or guinea pigs. 8)
