Hi Everyone,

I stumpled across this website and have been a lurker for a few weeks. I think it's a great site. I was looking for the contact us link so that I could pm the organisers and let them know how great this site is. Well done.

I'm now coming out of the shadows to ask some advice. I took over the role of Secretary on our Association in April. My first act was to create a website and electronic newsletter as we'd not had either of these before. I have plenty of drive and ideas, (no funds though  :-[) however, I'm not finding that the website is getting the traffic it should given the number of plot holders we have.

I therefore thought I must be missing something. Would you guys be able to take a look and give me your open honest advice please? The site address is www.greatlinford-allotments.co.uk

Thanks  ;D

Well that's great Gela, and welcome to our site anyway. We have a 108 members on 175 plots here in Derby, but doubt we would get many hits..
You don't fancy making one for us do you!!  ::)

Well done Gela, you have put a lot of work into the site....do the members appreciate it?

It takes a long time to build up site traffic especially if it very specific, ie about an allotment society.

I took a sudden jump with my page on squashes and when I looked it up, the majority of hits came from Google search.

The reason is that by typing Growing Butternut Squash into Google, it comes up number 1 after a Gardeners world sponsored site and has hits from all over the world.

The problem is that I do not know how it happened!

I've just taken a look and really like it - only thing for me to do more of would be photos of plots and produce.

Allabout may have hit on an idea - have sections for specific fruit or veg or a composting page or maybe a DIY section e.g. build your own polytunnel, coldframe, shed etc
