Onion pests

 Again this year folks on our site are being troubled by leek moth. One chap has lost all his onions and shallots. He took a specimen up to the gardeners world show and they said it was leek moth. We have only grown overwintering onions and shallots because of the problem last year. Apparently its all across the west midlands.Next year I am only growing onions and shallots under enviromesh. Am gonna get Tony to make me some frames so that I can fasten it onto permanently so that I can just pick it up to weed instead of haveing to peg it down everytime. My whole plot is gonna end up either covered in fleece and wire mesh or enviromesh.

It is a shame that we have to cover everything up to protect it.

Grand dad used DDT once a year on everything. I expect that is why I have two extra noses and no thumbs.

I had it (or maybe it was onion fly; they looked more like maggots) last year in my spring-planted onions, but there's been no sign this year. I had hoped the vile weather would have sorted it out, but no such luck from the sound of it.
