Spuds ready ?

I planted some Arran Pilot and Rocket potatoes on 12th Apr and they are flowering one blue and the other white.They say the first earlies are ready to pick when flowering but are they really ready since they have only been in for 2 months ?

I would leave it another 3-4 weeks personally.  2 months does not seem long enough to me.  If you really want to take a peek,  gently dig back some soil with a hand fork / tool from the end of the row till you see the spuds.  If they are too small, just re-cover.   ::)

      not sure on Arran Pilot, but Rocket need to be in the ground for ten weeks before you have a try.

I've been lifting my Lady Crystl for a week now, but they went in at the end of February. I'd leave yours a bit longer. (Roll your sleeve up & have a feel.)

Arran Pilot are first early as well, depending on conditions should be ready after being in the ground 10 to 12 weeks

I was watching River Cottage last night and they were lifting spuds on 70 days so your right i might just leave in for a little while longer.

It is just so annoying having to buy spuds from the shop when there are so many waiting to be pulled

A few of the plants on my earlies are going yellow and dieing off.  does this mean they are over-ready, or is it something more sinister?
Its my first year so I have no idea what blight looks like.

A neighbour said it looked like a lack of water...

Any ideas?  I can take a pic next time im at the plot (hopefully today if my car is fixed in time).

I've had several of one variety 'go off'. Can only assume infected seed.

some of our pentland are going yellow, after flowering, dug some of them up today and got 10 lb of potatoes, some a bit big but I have a knife  ;D
