Please be aware that having an allotment can turn you into an old person, all in one afternoon!!!!

I went up my plot a relatively fit and healthy woman but came back not even being able to stand upright. Lol

It has been raining for the last two weeks and today was a lovely warm sunny day so, fool that I am, I decided to get as much planted as the car would carry.

Tomatoes went in, as did several b/nut squash, winter squash, summer squash, 2 rows of leeks, 1 row of carrot seeds, 16 strawberry plants, 2 rows of broad bean plants (in bud), 20 celeriac plants, 4 sorts of lettuce seeds, raddish seeds and spring onion seeds, nasturtium plants, French marigold plants and I helped put on a shed roof that had blown off a neighbours shed etc etc......

All this was done on my knees. Bare in mind here that my plot is so covered in couch I should mow it (despite 2 treatments with glyo) so I weeded as I went along.
When I had finished I crawled to the edge of my plot to the bean sticks and hand over hand pulled myself up.

Even an hour later I still cannot stand up straight

Could anyone please reassure me that having an allotment is good for me?

;) ;D

daileg

Ishard

That is so true  ::) ;D

Barnowl

Have a brandy - great combined anaesthetic and muscle relaxant and very rejuvenating!

(failing that I use ibuprofen gel  :) )

daileg

Crystalmoon

Hi Ishard you reminded me so much of myself it made me laugh out loud  :D

Ive been really frustrated by all the rain & havent been able to have a whole day like you describe for a few weeks...got loads of small plants just waiting for the next sunny day mega allotment session! My body is just about recovering from the last one  ;)

Emagggie

But Ishard, after all that fresh air and exercise, you will surely sleep so well tonght that you will wake rejuvinated ready for the big plant up tomorrow ;D ;D
Smile, it confuses people.

Sinbad7

And once you get over that knackered feeling you will think how satisfying today has been ;D

Once you see your hard work starting to grow, you will think today was all worth it.

Im going stagger to the bath with a comforting bottle of red wine and SOAK!

I wish I could do the pics then youd see my plot looks like those pics you see of the African bush that has been partially cleared and strip planted. lol

I do as you say feel a great sense of achievement :) and optomism untill the pigeons come back lol

STEVEB

Im sure we are all guilty of the same crimes!!You pop down for a half hour just to see how things are coming along and 4 hours later your back aches and youve weeded for england!! :)
If it ain't broke don't fix it !!

lorna

Like Crystalmoon, could have been me and I have a big grin on my face. I only have my garden but always seem to try and get too much done. When my sciatica sets in I peer round to make sure no neighbours are looking and crawl back in to the bungalow ;D
Gosh you certainly got a lot done. Enjoy your soak and your wine.

Ishard

Thank you I shall really enjoy it *hick* started already lol

Drive-by abuser

Don't worry Ishard I did exactly the same thing on Saturday, only dumbo here forgot the suncream as well! Ended up running the race for life on Sunday unintentionally dressed as a lobster!  Stupid, stupid, stupid  :o :o :o  But hey we got loads planted.  I'd recommend a box of Radox and a large glass (for glass read bottle) of Chardonnay!
What I lack in ability and experience, I make up for in sheer enthusiasm!!!

Talking of knees. OH said he was going to make a new gate & I new he would be on his knees a lot so I got him some gel knee pads from woollies.  They were only £10 with free delivery. He said they were great. I will use them when I am weeding etc.
Emu oil is very good for muscles. It gives me instant relief when fybromialgia pays me an unwelcome visit. It's also anti aging.
Janet.
PS The gate is made & looks very professional.

WAIT, STOP, ISHARD!  Before you get in the tub with your bottle, do you have somebody at home to pull you out??
The handle on your recliner does not qualify as an exercise machine.

Ishard

OH dear, sunscreen?? Forgot that too Posie hehehe
My son says Im as red a a beetroot but I think its more moneymaker shade.  ::)

Grannie I have an extra large old fashioned bath so had to wriggle down the bath to pull myself up on the taps cos I had a feeling my 22 year old son really wouldnt want to see his mum in the bath. It may just scar him for life! lol

By the time I needed to get out and after a whole bottle of red I was 'feelng no pain' as the saying goes.

Hubbys always away working when I need him.

fuchsia

its the thought of you helping your neighbour with his shed roof on your knees lol.....guess this was at the end of the day after all the planting hehe.
