My 200 hour project for college

This is my front garden.  8 months ago the grass was dead and nearly 4ft high and dead.

Would love some ideas :D

Is the hedge box??  I seen on tee gee's site it can be propagated, as I would love to do something completely mad in the front!!!.. coz I am mad :D

What do you like to see? I have seen a lovely yin yang motif done in black and white stones. I bet your kiddies wiil just love playing with them!!!!! Maybe not such a good idea then :-\

I see that you are pretty much in land but do you have a river near by?...A small up turned boat at some point in the garden "not the middle" with a few bits of rotten timber and old rope etc scattered about and plants growing out of some largish broken pots or wooden "things" on their side with some shingle around them could give you a ship wreck or a sunken garden theme...you did mention some sort of a crazy thing...I think? ;D

I am no expert but the hedge looks a bit woody at the middle on the inside if you were to chop it about you could end up with a gap or two. It may grow back next year however as I said...I aint no expert...Well done regarding 4 ft to where you are at now.

I was thinking of doing a crop circle, where the beds are the rounds!!  Should upset the neighbours :D

Not sure that would be 200 hours of work though.

The flying saucer build may clock up at least 190 hours giving you only 10 to learn the ropes and cut that crop, a tadge tight but I am sure you will do it ;D. Serious though good luck regarding the 200 hours.

The hedge is probably privet, but there's no telling for sure at that distance.

I agree, it looks like privet to me too, we cut ours back reasonably hard and it survives well!

Sounds like a lovely idea, i was thinking of using box hedges too. 

Unfortunately my hedge is privet, took my book outside and looked it up.. .which is a shame as i thought i could do lots of cuttings :D

I'm sure you could get someone with a box hedge to send you some branches... My favourite den was in a box hedge when I was a kid.

You wouldn't have got much impact from box cuttings for a very long time anyway.  It's extremely slow growing, hence the high cost of buying mature plants.

How about a planted curved berm and small tree maybe an arbor to give an enclosed space within an enclosed space, a sitting area and within it perhaps NO grass, only moss or other low plant like the evergreen creeper that has a flower larger than sweet alyssum. Oh, umm, you said this is your front yard? Hmm, it would have to be heavily planted for privacy... ah, the possibilities.  8)  Have fun dreaming up something. ;D
