Hi Guys and Gals

This is my first full season on my plot and I plan to spend some time this year enjoying/eating my produce on site with friends and family.  I have a gas cooker and a hob on the top of my greenhouse heater for sa second pan.

Do you guys have any suggestions for a vegetable soup recipe that can be picked chopped and cooked on site?  I'm not really sure what veg I will have ready at the same time or when I will be doing it so just some general ideas of what to make.

Also what veg is good on the BBQ other than corn?

Thanks

Michael

Micheal,
I would just bung anything I had en site in the pan with a chopped onion, and add stock as per any soup! (could take hot stock up in a thermos.)
Sliced lettuce is surprisingly good thrown in at the end of a veg soup, as too is spinach.

Other veggies we barbie are lengthways sliced courgettes, and aubergines.

French beans, you could wrap in foil add a splash of water (and chopped tomatoes n garlic & herbs if wanted)  and steam.........though not tried this myself, could also do the same with squash.

Hope this helps

a tub of bouillon is great for stock..just a couple of teaspoons in hot water, makes a good base for soup..as dp says, just bung any veggies in, enjoy your soup  ;D

I'm with the others on this, we make soup from what ever we have  :)

You could make some leek and potato soup. It can be cooking away while you are doing your chores  ;D

CHOCOLATE BANANAS
1. Cut each banana lengthways, through the skin, making sure you don't cut all the way through the bottom layer of skin.
2. Place about 6 squares or buttons of chocolate in the cuts of each banana.
3.  Wrap in foil and cook over medium hot coals for 10 minutes, turning once. ((Can also be cooked in a frying pan))
4. To serve - remove the foil and place the bananas on serving plates (skin and all).
5. Eat with custard or Yoghurt

Yummmyyyyyyyyyy  :P

Carrot and coriander is easy

Cook carrots in water with a stock cube then mash and add chopped coriander

Cauliflower (the ones that do not get to be perfect) with a little cheese and milk added.

Onion soup is simple too.

Fry the chopped onions in a little oil until soft then add an stock cube mixed  with hot water.

I would take a potato masher too, then you can put in bigger chunks of vegetables and can mash them up a bit when they get soft. Add some finely chopped bits towards the end of the cooking and mashing to give the chef effect.

I suggest that you keep a bottle of olive oil with garlic in it then brush this lightly on to chunks of bread, flash fry in a pan to heat the bread.

Soup and garlic bread.

Or you could do a vegetable stew with dumplings?

Make a full meal using corned beef, potatoes, onions and carrots.

When the tomatoes are ready you could make your own pasta sauces with a little onion, tomato and basil.

serve with your own salad and end with fresh strawberries.

Why stop at soup?

I have veggies in freezer at home which need to be used up.

Are there any combinations which do not work?
