Several times I saw on British t.v. (yes, we get BBC 1 and 2 here) where they were holding shows of veggies grown at allotments.
People were actually polishing their veggies and aranging them very carefully. There seem to be strickt rules about how many of each type you have to exhibit and how.

I may suggest to our lottie complex committee that we hold a Britisch style show with all the trimmings but I don't know anything about the rules.

Does anybody know the rules and judging criteria for veggie shows or where I might be able to get them?
Thanks.

Multiveg

Maybe this is a silly idea, but how about an A4A veggie show - well, if we set a date/weekend, we could take a picture (digital would be easier) of our entrants and post them up in msn group....

Thank you so much Emma Jane, I printed it out and have a deep think about it before suggesting a show to the committee.

I like your idea Multiveg. What do you mean with posting them in msn group? Not here?

Ps EJ, I couldn't get onto the site you sent, pitty.

Multiveg

Thinking that it would be easier to upload the pictures to the msn group that was started earlier, but I suppose we could have a thread here and link (display) the images here.

Doesn't matter, I just don't know anything about the msn group that's all.

If you are bright enough to follow all those rules, you deserve to win a prize!! = Tim

Well, as we are amateures, we may adjust the rules a bit hahaha. At least I got an idea.

Hi Ina - another couple of links on British vegetable shows (a VERY wierd cult, I suspect - the worship of the most enormous leeks and the 5 foot carrot :) ).

http://www.nvsuk.org.uk/
http://www.llanor.fsnet.co.uk/ - try seraching for showing, show, judging to get an idea of the emotions aroused; gardeners' savagery to slugs is NOTHING compared to the competition and emotion of the annual vegetable show! :)

Have fun!  Gavin

Thanks Gavin.
I wonder if the competition level will get very high here but one never knows. If we had a show this year, I just know that my lottie neighbor would win the cauliflower competition. I've never seen such big, perfect heads in my life.
This same neighbor had commented on us winning best, mixed garden last year and the words on the certificate said something about the sweet smell of flowers greeting you in our lottie, he said to me "No wonder I didn't win, your lottie smells like flowers while mine smells like horse s hit.
