Hi

I would like to know what the best pot plants/flowers are for having outside. We have a lovely cottage and would like some easy to manage flowers in pots by our front door.

Also when can I put them out without worrying they will die in this weather?

Thanks in advance.

At this time of year it is the good old winter pansy for me.Around end of may I think Geraniums in terracotta pots look great.Very closely planted busy Lizzie are another fave. Most bedding type plants will die in frost so wait till threat of frost is over. :)

How about Sweet Box (Sarcococca confusa)?

It's a shrub,  but very slow growing and has wonderfully scented flowers during the winter. We keep one in a pot by by our door.

we have a pot with rosemary, golden thyme and sage outside our door, let them flower and you can also use the leaves/flowers for cooking..or lavender, french and ordinary, again, lovely scent and feeds the insects.. :)
