IS ANYONE HERE FROM STOKE??

One of my colleagues is coming to Stoke on Trent on business tomorrow for 3 days - is there anything you could recommend for him to do in the evenings? Just a wild question there... and no he's not a gardening type  ;)

Just the usual really - cinema, 10 pin bowling, dry ski slope, casino, theatre, swimming, usual selection of bars, clubs and restaurants.  Take your pick ;)

I have been to Manchester before but not to Stoke I am afraid, so I couldn't make any personal recommendations...

Hi, Sangam's in Stoke town centre do a pretty good curry. The place is nothing fancy to look at, the menu is quite small, but the curries are very good. It's close to Stoke town hall, opposite the church. You can park on the town hall car park right outside the rear entrance. You can bring your own drinks too, if you wish.

I suppose it depends which of the five towns you mean by 'Stoke'.

Hanley isn't too bad

Burslem, Longton, and the other one of the five towns I can't remember are pretty dire.

Newcastle (under Lyme) as opposed to upon Tyne accidentally got a load of money from Westminster.  Some civil service ignoramus who had never been north of Watford, decided there was only one Newcastle ??? ??? ???

Your friend's three days are going to seem like an eternity.  Dreadful place.

If Sangams is part of a chain then I went in the one in Hathersage (I even went in there if it isn't part of a chain) Curry was excellent but I couldn't sit on plastic chairs for about a week afterwards. ;D

Don't know about curry houses, but the "Cultural Quarter" has the bars & restaraunts.  The Regent Theatre is there & is worth a butchers to see what's on.  There are cinema complexes in Hanley at the festival park & on Newcastle high street, most other stuff I can think of is daytime when i presume they will be working?

I've had a lovely curry and a good Italian in Hanley, where I used to have to stay a few times a month (worked for Britannia building society). It was the ladies working the hotel bar that made things interesting. The Hotel was the Best Western or something.
