Horseradish

I was wondering if now is the right time to split a horseradish root?  If so, does anyone have one they would like to split for me?  Never grown it before, but we love it and use so much so thought I would give it a try!!  Some advice about it too if anyone has any words of wisdom?

What can I offer in exchange, I have some oriental/unusual seeds, and a selection of herb seeds.

I think you can do this any time; they're extremely tough. If I were you, I'd dig it up completely every year, and replant whatever bits you want somewhere else. It's you're best chance of stopping the stuff becoming uncontrollable.
