Even tho it was tipping down here in sunny Essex this morning, I needed to go to the plot to finish building my new fruit cage to protect the ripening raspberries.  Whilst there, I had a little pick.

The chard is just wonderful - going to make a bhaji of it tonite.  The purple beans are purple dwarf french and I am amazed at how many beans 12 plants can produce.  They are still absolutely laden down!  These are the last of the peas from my earliest sowing.  By next week the next sowing will be ready to pick - I actually sussed successional sowing with these  ;D

Roots!  Turnips and beetroots.  1 radish, as it is only me that eats them so I only need one at a time, and the smallest carrot ever!  After something ate all of my gooseberrys over the weekend, since Monday, something has been at my carrots munching the roots and leaving the leaves!  Beware, Giant Carrot Fly in Essex!!  :o

Salad, dwarf green french beans, also very heavy cropping and my first head of brocolli!

Sorry to go on about my veggies, but I cannot tell you how proud I am.  The plot is looking great, the plants are growing, I am being bothered by pests and diseases, just like any good allotmenteer should, and we are eating our bounty!

Nice pics E-J -what sort of raspberries are you growing? Mine have been and gone (and very nice they were too :P ) , in our corner of Essex.

P.S. One of our Chard is now as tall as I am!

The turnips I use the same way as spuds and kohl rabi - I boil them and mash them with butter, bung them in stews and soups, roast them or make chips or game chips from them  Yum!  I am trying beetroots in the same ways.

My rasps are Glen Magna.  This is their first year in and I cut them back per the instructions that came with them, and I think it will be a week or so before they are ready for picking.  Can't wait!!
