....to make a User?

When I logged on a few minutes ago, there were 6 Users, but 107 Guests!!! At eight in the morning!!!

Come on in, Guests - the water's lovely! Why not become a User??

I understand that some of the guests are not in fact people, but computers doing automatic searches or something??? ( correct me if I am wrong!)

Trevor_D

That sounds rather sinister to me....  :o  :o

Perhaps the real people should own up and then we'd know how many computers were evesdropping on our conversations?

bupster

For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else.

Thats right and as someone said most of them will be bots.

Sorry to be dim but - what are `bots`?

Eristic

Quotewhat are `bots`?

Bots are automated programs that access websites page by page and scan for content and links which are followed up. Most bots (short for robots) are harmless and do useful work indexing content for search engines, others look for e-mail addresses for spam purposes, the media mafia check to see if there is any copyrighted material present and the c1a just wants to know who you are, what you are doing, what you are thinking etc.

The guests figure will almost certainly contain some bots but most of them will be more or less human. The Internet never sleeps (like me) and parts of the world are alive, awake and bored at what appears to be odd times to us. English gardens fascinate the world and some of the antics on A4A must be better than Australian soaps.

I have taken the big plunge! A guest no longer! This thread made me giggle and after nearly two years of lurking (very shady behaviour ,I know!) I am coming out of the potting shed, hello A4A. It's quite liberating! Thank you Trevor_D!
