Said to be the first new potato variety to be introduced to Britain in 400 years...

Has anyone tried it?

I grew some this year, got a reasonable yield from my 5 trial tubers from T&M. Lovely buttery yellow potatoes, about the same size as PFA. What was interesting was its blight resistance...it lasted the longest of all my potatoes but did eventually succumb, the leaves are smaller and furrier than 'normal' ones, pretty purple flowers, due to the different heritage I suppose. I will grow some more this year!
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

I'm so glad you posted about this. I heard about it last year and was delighted to find them at Chatsworth but disappointed with the results. Now I remember - It's MAYAN gold, not YUKON gold I was looking for.

They sound interesting.....might give them a try, thanks ;)
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

Barnowl

I'd already ordered some - so glad to hear they're worth trying :)

Then.. I tried them and the yields were poor compared to neighbouring Kestrel, Markies and Sarpo Axona, as wellas the tubers being on the small size. Ah well.
What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?

Barnowl

Now you've got me all depressed...... ;D

I think they're exaggerating with the 400 years. It was an import in the 1830's that was responsible for bringing blight to Europe.

saddad

Yes but all the European bred spuds came from those brought at the end of the tudor period...
:-\

Deb P

The tuber period......? ;D ;D
