can I grow this in the UK ?  We had some in a green curry the other night and the taste is amazing - lovely anaseedy (yikes don't look at that spelling) flavour.

Any ideas where to pick up some seeds ?

Moles and Kings both sell 'Siam Queen' a variety of so called Thai Basil and Plants of Distinction do as well but there's is just called Thai Basil - actually I think a lot more of the seed merchants will sell this and try Jekka's Herb Farm

and yes you will be able to grow it in Britain if you sow it at the right time

But the whole point of Basil is that it tastes like Basil??

But there are so many varieties, like Mint, and they do all have their own distinctive flavour along with the typical Basil taint. You've been spoilt by the 'genovese' possibly. Worth trying a few others to compare  :D

So right! Hooked. And I'm probably missing something.

Meanwhile, if I want mint, I'll pick mint!!

The Thai Basil is gorgeous and I also love Korean mint - this is so flavourful I use it as a salad leaf (pick today, use tomorrow as it needs time to mellow a bit).

I add mint as well as basil to greek salads (onion tomatoes etc) and that combination seems to taste better than the mint basil I grew, but thai basil does have an aroma that is hard to duplicate - perhaps basil with dill?

We grow about half a dozen varieties for the plant sale they all sell well and we save a few of each for the g'house and polytunnel...
;D
