We are having a new old folks home being built across from the entrance of the allotments.  And today I went to see the site foreman (Tom) really nice guy, asked him if we can have first pick of anything he will be throwing away. He has agreed but wanted list of items we may need.

Have started list but need some help as not sure what they may be getting rid of.

Any ideas ???  ???  ???

I'd think you could make use of most things apart from plaster and wiring.

I did read that asparagus likes a dressing of plaster in spring.

Dont forget to add bricks, sand, gravel, windows/window frames (for making cold frames).

Water butts! I got 4 from 2 seperate building sites that were building a multi-million pound project. Had to wait till near the end though, but all the same.... it was worth it.

breeze blocks make good cold frames with double glazed units on top, deffo rubble netting for protecting brassicas..when the builders  were building the    'club'   , we got very large cardboard boxes and sheets, tarpaulins, drainage pipe, excess sand, guttering, also, they were getting us flagging ash cheap, got some good stuff from them  ;D

Are they demolishing anything first? If so floorboards would be very handy for raised beds.
Grow your own and enjoy the fruits of your labours,

Anything copper or lead seems to be the "in thing" at the moment, but I bet they've already accquired that! ;D

Piping - 22mm plastic is good for making cloche supports.

Copper piping make good makers/plant label holders (flattern one end and bang it into the ground.

Tables of any kind - to put growbags of strawberries & chillies, or anything that wants to be kept away from slugs.
Maximus, Procerus, Vegetus
