This year my wife forced me to have plants on the allotment, I grew sweat peas, now I need to know if they'll come back next year (my wife binned the packet) or do I start again next spring?

Chears mate.

What advantage does over wintering give? I have never done it for anything.

manicscousers

well, it's supposed to give you earlier flowering, trouble is, last winter was so mild, I had to keep pinching them out, we grow ours in rootrainers, could use toilet roll tubes, anything for a long root run  :)

Your wife forced you to have plants? What do you normally have then?

There are some perennial Sweet Peas Mick... much more vigerous but no scent!
