I have had great success with layering.I found this out by accident. Half a brick was tossed to oneside,  it  landed on a penstemon and I meant to remove it but forgot.  When I did remove the brick I noticed the stem under it was forming  roots.
Since then I always use my 'rooting brick'

one of the stems is laying down, near the ground..several shoots have come up, I'll take these for my cuttings, what d'you think ?  :)

Peg it to the ground and cover with a bit of compost. Also cut the rest of the plant down and let it bulk up. Next spring split the plant as you would other perenials

thanks, ace, when do you pot them on ?

ACE

As soon as you have a viable plant, we have a later winter than you, but most things are potted on before the middle of Nov.  keep them in an unheated greenhouse or poly, plant out late spring.

thanks, will have a go, the way the weather was today, I think it's spring  ;D

angle shades

:) they are one of the easiest plants to propagate

you can get loads of cuttings in a small plant pot and they will all take

then you have to find homes for them all, I give some away and the rest go to my lottie flower garden/ shades x
grow your own way

don't worry, I want these for next year's plant sale  ;D
