Failure of radishes in pots?

Put most of my radish seeds into the ground - all came up into big fat tasty radishes.

Put a few in pots )because I didn't have any spare ground at the time) and although there is loads of foilage, there are no actual radishes.  Where the radish should be there are just thin purple stems that run up to all the leafery.

Any idea what the problem is?
And if I transfer them to the ground will they bear fruit?

I think I've had the same experience as you Si D. In the ground they were fine. In the pots, just pink nothings really.

It's easy to have them too close in pots, Si. Not sure what else to suggest. My beetroot in pots normally just give lots of leaf. My radish's in pots are great where I gave them enough space. Oh, how deep are your pots?

I use those supermarket *Flower Display Pots* about a foot tall

Thanks for replies and PMs.

Looks like it's a case of pots not deep enough and/or too much nitrogen/little potassium in the pots.

I shall use toilet roll tubes and soil from th allotment next time.
