Poblano not so meek and mild.

Ok, my Poblano meek and mild chillies are not right!?! I have given in to the fact that they are about 1 inch long, not of a stuffable size.

I decided to try roasting them with some veg. Not being brave myself, I got 17 year old son to nibble a bit to see if they really were mild.  BIG MISTAKE!! He had tears in his eyes, gave up on cold water as it wasnt cooling his mouth at all, and had to eat loads of ice cream to cool his mouth down. He doesnt like me any more :'( :'( ;D  Not 'mild' methinks.

Am I the only one with these impostors? I was wondering if they were packed wrongly at the seed company.

is there such a thing as a meek and mild chilli  :-\

I thought that poblanos were mildish to hot but it is very subjective topic, the weather could have kept them small - what shape and colour are they

They are dark purple, shaped like an acorn with wingy bits at the stalk end.

Something funny there? Every write-up says mild - a little spicier than bell peppers!

it generally gets recorded as 'mildly spicy' which is almost a contradiction in terms and if someone really doesn't care for any heat then it will seem even hotter  ::)

My son loves hot chillis so it cant be that he's not used to heat.

I am thinking of sending a sample chilli to Thompson and Morgan to see if they know what is going on. I hope they were wrongly packaged, that way they may give me what I was expecting, as I was looking forward to them.

'Hot' depends on what you're used to; Namissa eats habaneros whole. How used to really hot chilis are you?

Apparently Mr Flowerdew was on the radio saying the exact same thing according to my OH who heard him , he purchased some sweet pepper seeds that turned out to be a chilli......? some mix up at the seed suppliers?

I think that the larger and riper Poblano get the milder they become. They need to be grown in a large pot or they probably won't reach their optimal size. Should be harvested when they reach a reddish brown colour.

He did, on GQT and they asked for people to contact them with any more examples as this is potentially dangerous!
