what can we put in now?

the ground is empty, just dug last of potatoes up yesterday, what would be good to put in there now for winter?
Is now the time to turn in the compost made in the big bin? before i put something in?

You can buy in Brassica & other plants to speed things up.

My spring cabbages are ready to go out, as are the Japanese onion seedlings.  You'll still get away with some cut and come again lettuce, and it won't be long before you can sow garlic, overwintering onion sets, broad beans and overwintering peas.

Composting never hurts IMHO.  If you have wet ground it will open it up, and in sandy ground it will hold back some moisture.

 Hi all,
            I am trying some of the japanese mustards, giant red, & a green one, plus mizuno, according to sarah raven, ( love her hate her?) they are very good sown from now on. Seeds available from the real seed company.

I have sown kale, chinese greens in all shapes and sizes, lettuce, radish, spinach and florence fennel.  I think that is all I sowed a couple of weeks back.  I still have moolis, more chinese greens and chicories to do.
