Jeannine

We seem to have done books, records, movies ..so here goes with music.

Do you and yours have a special song ?

Tissues at the ready.

Ours is Johhny Mathis,The Twelfth of Never. John used it to propose to me in 1958 when I was 16, I later designed and had made a pendant with the words on that has worn for about 25 years.

Our favourite is "Close to You" by the Carpenters.

When hubby took me out for the first time it was playing on his 8-track in his orange VW Beetle.

(The only song guaranteed to get him on the dance floor  ;) )
If I ever get it all right - then that's the time to quit.

Ok then, I'll go for it...Santana "Europa" cos it reminds me of a time when I thought I could be Anything!!

Ah well, I grew up and now I am Something!!

What do I get? by the Buzzcocks.. a punk who never grew up.. married for twenty odd years but still relevant...

tilts, I go along with Stranger on the Shore by Acker Bilk, I also liked his ?Summer Set or was it Somerset (can't remember).  Just takes me back to being a teenager.

Classical I would go for Kathleen Ferrier's version of What is life (to me without you).

OH has been a bit poorly this year, thats why I go for the Eva Cassidy Songbird and the Kathleen Ferrier What is life.

'Our song' would have to be 'I got you babe' by Sonny and Cher, from just before we got married.

Pass the Kleenex Jeannine!!

Undertones, Teenage Kicks, for exactly the same reason!   :)

Pete Seeger, Little Boxes - happy family memories.

Bizet, Pearl Fishers duet, reminds me of my old dad.

In Paradisum from Faure's Requiem - makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when the little boys sing "Jerooooosalem".

Peggy Lee, The Folks Who Live on the Hill - causes instant and involuntary blubbing.
You been goofin' with the bees?

Froglegs

Jeannine my first is Molly Malone because my granddad was allways singing it or whistling it, and he was my hero. My second is Follow you follow me by Genesis, it allways seemed to be playing when me and my then girl friend first went out together, and after 25 years wed we still follow you follow me.My third is Auld Lang Syne because it allways makes me think back on the good the bad and the sad  time's Ive had in my 48 years.

Marian

Mozart,  especially the Requiem.
Jerusalem (national song)
Any Winehouse
Jon Bon Jovi
Mr Postman (the Carpenters)

froglets

The first Darkness album as it was the anthem for one of my best years climbing, for the company and the places we went to, rather than the pure grades of routes.

Pachabel's Canon - Deutche Gramaphone recording, find that version really moving & uplifting

Abide with me - my Grannies favourite hymn

Level 42 to sing along to

Hue & Cry's Jazz stuff - always interested in what Pat Kane has to say, even if I don't always agree.

And so many more depending on the mood I'm in.  I can see a rifling of the CD collection coming up.......
is it in the sale?
(South Cheshire)

ACE

Albinoni's  Adagio in g minor, always calms me down,(along with a ciggie) heard it first when number 1 son was born

John Lennon's Jealous Guy. Not that I am. I was performing it in a pub when my future wife walked in. (she does not know it yet ;)

Land of Hope and Glory, Last night at the proms is on my list of doing before I die, which won't be long if OH reads previous choice ;D

MPG

i have many favorite songs too many to list.
here are a few sentimental ones
Bryan Adams (everything i do) i do it for you, was number 1 for a long time when i first met my husband.
Imagine by John Lennon, i had this played at my mums funeral was her favorite
and Cher  I Belive also played at mums funeral, but its a song i listen to when i need to think.

robkb

Vaughan Williams - Tallis Fantasia - floored me the first time I heard it and still does, every time.

Purcell - Dido's Lament from Dido and Anaeas (sp?) - same reason as above.

Bach - B Minor Mass - same reason as above.

David Sylvian - Brilliant Trees - a kind of secular hymn, absolutely beautiful.

The Bangles - Eternal Flame, and Fleetwood Mac - Tango In The Night - the soundtrack to the summer I met my wife.

Cheers,
Rob ;)

"Only when the last tree has been cut down, and the last river has been poisoned, and the last fish has been caught, will we realise that we cannot eat money." - Cree Indian proverb.

Biscombe

Where's Captain Kirk by Spizzenergi
and all the covers!!

Rhubarb Thrasher

New England - Jonathon Richman and the Modern Lovers, if only because i can sing it better than him, and I can't sing

I wonder if in the future when some eldery couple are listening to Classic Gold Punk FM, they get all Our Song misty eyed when it plays "If you don't want to *******(Baby), then ********** by Wayne County and the Electric Chairs?
