Hi All,

I'm after some more long-flowering herbaceous perennials.  I've already got some anthemis, pink geraniums, polemonium and persicarias which fit the bill, but want to replace some of my less hard-working plants with some real stormers.  As in, if it flowers for less than 6 weeks, its not working hard enough.  I've got all sorts of conditions except acidic and the time of year doesn't matter.  Any favourite good-doers?

my perennial wallflower 'Bowles Mauve' hasn't stopped flowering since I bought it last year.
I think you're supposed to cut off all the flowers once a year to encourage more during the summer, but I've just let mine get on with it.

My Alstroemeria flowers for 5 months and has a great vase life. Icelandic poppies the same ,do they count?

Sorry, not entirely on thread, but I bought some Alstroemeria seeds this year but having read the propagation instructions (warm then refrigerate then warm etc) decided I'd leave trying to grow them for another year. Is there a way to propagate other than from seed?

On thread, I think some Salvia will give 8 - 10 weeks, and this (pic below) flowers all year round - just don't know for certain what it is (geranium tree has been suggested). It's about 6-7 years old.

Barnowl ,I think division would work. They are just such good value as a cut flower.Mine are still in their first year so
can not help,sorry.

Barnowl, that plant looks like a HIBISCUS, lovely colour. ;D

I grow a less well known poppy called Papaver ruprifragum, a perennial with orange flowers. The flowers dont last long but loads are produced throughout the summer particularly if you keep deadheading it. An added bonus is (in mild areas at least) it is semi evergreen. Does need full sun and well drained soil though. Oh and it only grows to around 2 -2.5 feet including the flowers.

I hope this helps
