Each year I leave a row of PSB, or somesuch, uncovered for the whites.

And where do you think I find all the whites?

Yes - under the mesh!!

If it's uncovered, they find it, lay, and fly off elsewhere. If it's covered, they find a way in, lay, and they're trapped for you to find later.

Never ceases to amaze me either Tim..

What amazes me most is the way they can sidle in between a 2' overlap of mesh.

Is there anything in the thought that they actually prefer Cabbages to PSB?

Mothy

I would say yes. But there are so many varieties now that span the year, I could be wrong.

Not noticed the cabbage whites this year (well, a few). In previous years - have seen so many.

My Hispi were covered in enviromesh but a small cabbage white or moth still managed to get in and lay one egg.   Spotted the 2 inch scoundrel after he'd managed to munch his way at sporadic intervals around the whole of one cabbage leaving excrement in every layer.  I only grew 5 cabbages (we only have a small vegetable plot in the garden) so I took out my revenge by donating said caterpillar to our ever growing population of birds.
